What are the secret habits Elon Musk shares with top inventors?

Elon-Musk-TED

Does Elon Musk share some of the same secret habits employed by the best inventors that ever existed? If this piece over at News.com.au is to be believed then, yes!

It lists a number of behaviors found in people, including like Edison, Nicola Tesla (of course), Dean Kamen and Steve Jobs, and we can see where some of these are exhibited by the Tesla/SpaceX entrepreneur. We’ve gone through the various practices and picked out the ones we think Elon has in common.

  • Not sleeping. Attributed to Edison, Leonardo da Vinci, and Nicola Tesla, we can only imagine Elon doesn’t get a whole lot of shut eye considering he runs two companies and has five kids.
  • Consistent fashion/dietary choices. Steve Jobs was known for his black turtleneck and jeans. Dean Kamen eats daily at the same Italian restaurant. Elon has a favorite black velvet sports jacket he seems to frequently wear (thankfully not every day), and says he downs about eight cans of diet coke every day. (Gross.)
  • Thinking outside of the box. The article talks about luminaries brain storming in weird locations and we can’t say Elon does that. He does, however, credit his physics background with the way he thinks about things and how he tackles problems.
  • Coffee. Not sure why this made the list, as pretty much everyone enjoys a good cuppa coffee (Double espresso, sugar, cream, please). Elon is no exception.
  • Long hours. This kind of goes hand-in-hand with the no-sleeping thing. Elon has said in the past that he worked 100 a hours a week, and that makes a lot of sense.
